One day, Alice decided to follow the boy who frequently picked up leftovers from her restaurant because she thought he could be hiding something. However, she was shocked by what she learned along the road.
“You’re lucky, youngster. You may take anything home with you since we have a ton of leftovers today,” Steve added. As the head chef at Alice’s restaurant, he would often save the leftovers for Christopher, the little youngster who regularly came in to eat.
Really? Is there really that much food? Can I tell my pals how much I have? Christopher’s eyes glowed.

“Yes, Chris,” said Steve, grinning broadly. “I’ll get the packets for you; just wait here.”
When Christopher got the meal packets, he was ecstatic. He waved good-bye, thanked Steve with a broad smile, and left with a smile.
However, until she witnessed Christopher leaving one evening, Alice was unaware that this was standard procedure at her restaurant. She didn’t believe, though, that he was the kind of person who ate leftovers to fill him up. “I ought to find out this child’s fate. As she watched him leave, she reflected, “After all, he doesn’t look homeless.”
She waited for him to return for the following few days, and on the third day, she met him at the restaurant. “Hello there. With gentleness, she questioned him, “Are you here for the leftovers?”
“Yes!” Chris answered with a smile. Would you kindly phone the chef? Those packages must have been saved for me.
Alice smiled warmly at him. “Well, it is unnecessary. To save you from eating the leftovers, I’ve made you some new meals. What is your name, by the way?”
“Oh, thank you; that’s very kind of you,” Christopher said. “You can call me Chris, but my full name is Christopher.”
“So, Chris, why don’t you eat at home?” Alice enquired. “Is your mother ill?”

Christopher’s face shifted. Actually, though… They don’t feed me well at the orphanage where I reside. Your staff always helps me when I come here. You have my gratitude for that. In any case, he remarked, “I’ll go now,” and quickly left.
Alice suspected that the lad had been concealing something from her all along. She made the decision to follow him that day. She was astonished by what she saw next.
Chris walked to a residence, put the food bag on the doorstep, and fled rather than stopping at an orphanage. An older woman soon out, collected the bag, and went back inside after taking a puzzled glance around.
Before she could ask the woman who answered the door who she was and how she knew Christopher, Alice received an urgent call from the restaurant and had to leave.
She was waiting for Christopher when he returned to the restaurant the following day. “Chris, you have to explain something to me. I am aware that you have been stealing food for other people. Who is she, really?
“I apologize for lying to you,” Chris said right away. However, I have been bringing meals for my grandmother. I no longer have any relatives but her.
Alice was taken aback. “So why do you continue to live in an orphanage?”

Chris scowled. Due of her unstable financial situation, my grandma was not granted custody when my parents died. I pick up food from here and deliver it to her house every day because she can’t even buy it.
While she felt sorry for them, Alice was also proud of Chris for taking care of his elderly grandma. She thus went to his grandma that day and let her in on everything. When Edith, Christopher’s grandma, discovered that her grandson had been leaving food boxes on her doorstep the entire time, she was shocked.
“Is my grandson really here?” Edith nearly started crying. “Oh, my God. I really do miss him! I apologize for not being able to help him.
“Don’t be concerned, ma’am.”Alice reassured her. “I can assist you and your grandson in some way.”

Alice sought for custody of Christopher that day when she visited the orphanage where he was staying. Thankfully, the formalities were finished promptly, allowing Christopher to go back to his grandmother’s house.
Edith thanked Alice, saying, “I don’t know how to repay you for what you’ve done.” “My grandson and I have always wanted to be together, but the situation was such that—” Edith burst into tears.
“Ma’am, you don’t have to thank me,” Alice answered. “I was delighted to assist. I know the importance of being surrounded by loved ones since I lost both of my parents when I was a little child.
Alice’s hands were taken in Edith’s. “You are welcome to visit us at any time, but I am unable to make up for it.

You’re really kind, ma’am. Alice murmured, her eyes nearly watering. “I’d be thrilled to do it. Chris is already someone I really like. He’s a good boy.
“Oh, he is,” Edith concurred. “All I need now is the money to keep him going.”
Well, then I have something to give you.
Edith cried once again when she learned what Alice had offered her—a position at the restaurant, as she had assumed.
“I realize this may be asking for too much, but I haven’t had anyone to take care of me since my parents passed away,” Alice remarked. Therefore, I’m searching for a mother-like lover. I’m hoping you’ll take the job. I am in charge of Chris’ schooling as I am his legal guardian.
